The Bush

Sunday, March 29, 2009 | |

So the internet here is very slow and unreliable, hence no blog posts. However, I was able to upload some pictures this morning.
Things have been pretty excellent here. Our camp is directly outside of Kruger Park in our own area on a private trail. We are completely secluded and surrounded by the bush and wildlife.

The lectures have been great, and everyone in the course is pretty cool as well. We have girls from Belgium, Amsterdam, Italy, and London. The three other guys are all from South Africa.
So far we've been into Kruger once, but we see a lot of animals in the "concession," which is the official name for the area in which we live.

We go back into the Kruger and start filming later this week and I'm super excited. I will try and post more pictures then. Here are a few for now...
My tent.

Our main view.

Young giraffe on our "driveway."

Poor shot of the mother.

Rhino sleeping in the concession.

Male impala.

Giraffe in Kruger.

These are just small versions of the photos, you can find the full sized ones on Flickr if you click the link at the top of this page.

Going back into lecture for the rest of the day. Hopefully it won't take me so long to update next, and I should have more pictures.

This looks so radical. Can I come sleep on the couch in your tent?

Soooo is the bush kind of like the jungle? Just kidding:)

We are glad you are having fun, but are you learning anything? Hopoefully that school is a great combination of both.

Just in case the school is not everything that you had hoped it would be, we have pitched a small tent in the back yard for you when you get home. You might see a few white tail and some racoons but that will be about it. oh yeah, we have a blind squirrel that is pretty fun to watch too. (Yes Matt we will put a couch in there for you.)

Have they fried up any bugs for you guys to eat yet or is the food americanized at the school? Just think you should be able to win at "Fear Factor" when you get back.

Well, anyways we are glad you are enjoying yourself. Let us know right away if there is anything you want, it could take two weeks to get a package over there.

Love,
Dad, Beth & Sierra

It was great talking with you on Friday. Be sure to thank your friend for letting me call you on her phone. Although the connection had a bit of static, it was still great to talk with you. You sound good, not too tired and pretty excited.

The pictures are great - kind of weird to think that you see these animals up close and personal and we can only see them on tv or in magazines.

Your tent is a bit smaller than our "condo", tent but I'm sure it's quite comfortable.

So, enjoy yourself, learn much, and be safe.

Love,
Mom and Gary
